A new study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has associated consuming French fries regularly (at least twice a week) with an elevated mortality rate.
The eight year study analyzed the eating habits and health of 4,440 study participants aged 45 to 79.
After analyzing the food consumption habits of the approximately five percent of the group who died during this time period, the researchers associated the consumption of fried potatoes (but not regular potatoes) with increased risk of mortality.
Researchers emphasized that for now the study shows an association or correlation of frequent fry consumption with a risk of death, not necessarily a direct impact. Other variables, like other poor eating habits and lifestyle choices, likely were contributing factors as well
